SPECIAL: Double Review

12:10 AM Reporter: AMW 0 Responses

* Today's reviews will feature the indie flick Moon and the high budget movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Moon

Background: Moon was directed by Duncan Jones, most known for directing commercials. This is his first debut movie. Running time is 97 minutes. Budget: $5,000,000. This is truly a unique movie. If your craving something entertaining to watch, Moon should be your first choice.

Interesting Fact: There is pretty much only one actor in the entire movie.

Summary: Sam Bell is an astronaut that mines moon rocks for helium-3, a safe energy source used in the future. During the last two weeks before his contract ends, weird things begin to happen to him...(spoiler: No aliens. Sorry.)

Rating: 4.5/5

Stereotypes/Racism: None. Actually, there are some Korean words sprinkled here and there.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Background: Okay, we all have been waiting for this big summer flick directed by Michael Bay. Stars include Shia LaBeouf and the very sexy Megan Fox. Running time is 15o minutes. Budget: a whopping $194,000,000! This movie is great if your into action, but not worth getting your ass off the couch if your more serious with movies.

Summary: Ironically the main character's first name is also Sam. Anyway, Sam hopes to be an average person in college after all the action from the first movie, and leaves behind his girlfriend and his past. But of course, being the second transformers movie, there would be no story without the main character right?

Rating: 4/5

Racism/Stereotypes: About Asians? No. But there are robots that raise suspicion about stereotypes...(look out for the twin robots)

Keep in touch for the next reviews :D

*I do not own ANY of these pictures/posters!!!

Although the reviews of Departures weren't so hot, I decided to check it out nonetheless.

Turns out it was actually a beautiful yet simple movie. It uncovers the true meaning of death from a man who struggles to find his identity.

It is a completely safe movie to watch because it was made in Japan-it would be odd to find stereotypes of Asians in the movie, right? Anyway, the film didn't win an Academy Award for no reason.

Originally I thought the movie would be dark the whole time. But as it turns out there are some comedic acts distributed throughout Departures. It mainly focuses on a Japanese method of 'encoffinment.' Since I have no knowledge on this subject, I'll just leave it at that.

Summary:

This movie is great if your looking for a dramatic movie to kill time. It's worth watching, regardless of the mean comments of those critics at Yahoo.

Rating: 4.5/5

Stereotypes/Racist: none

This movie is directed by Yojiro Takita and runs for 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Monsters vs. Aliens

Like the title says.

The movie overall had a decent plot and great animation. It seemed slightly repetitive if you (like many others) have seen kid movies before. That said, there were no racist remarks and stereotypes; it's safe to take your entire family to watch. They probably made it this way because they are even launching a korean version of it starring Han Ye-Sul as the lead. One small step for Asians crossing into Hollywood.
